spring is here

...which means Easter is right around the corner. Even though Spring my kryptonite (horrible allergies), Easter is my faaavorite holiday. It always has been. Rebirth, salvation, and of course, gathering around the table and eating are the best reasons to celebrate, in my opinion.

Easter supper recipes are starting to pop up, so its got me thinking about what we're going to serve this year. Last year was a smash hit. Josh and Jill joined us for a maple glazed ham, Donna's mac & cheese, some Greek Easter bread and Mahalia Jackson.

The Iron Skillet Pineapple Upside Down Cake was really good. The Pioneer Woman has a lot of decadent, comfort food-style recipes. Perfect for Easter. :)

I spent many Easters with my Greek friends back home. Last year I was missing them a lot, so Sanne and I learned how to make Greek Easter bread, which is called Tsoureki. It was delicious and beautiful!

I can't imagine Easter without that ham, or my mom's mac & cheese. But this year, I do want to try some new recipes.
Here are some ideas I found:

Pesto Ricotta Pie
Spinach and Strawberry Salad
Dill Biscuits with Honey Butter
Lemon Meringue Pie

Which reminds me... you may or may not remember, but much to my dismay, I am not very fond of fruit pies. Since my recent discovery of Pushing Daisies, I've been really wanting to do some pie-making. So I've been on the lookout for non-fruit pies. Lemon Meringue was my childhood favorite, and I found a banana-chocolate cream pie that I like.

What are some of your favorite pies (non-fruit, specifically)? What always makes it on your Easter table?

  1. I don't like fruit pies either, I would just crush a bunch of Oreos and put that in a pie crust with some whip cream. Now that's a pie! Your tsoureki was so beautiful! Don't forget to boil some eggs for egg fights.

  2. I could get behind that pie. I think its because I want my fruit to be cold. I could probably eat a bite or two if it were mostly vanilla ice cream, but I would definitely prefer oreos and whipped cream!
