Snow Day

With flights out of Logan cancelled and my California trip pushed back another day, I pretty much decided yesterday that today would be a snow day for me, regardless of what this nameless storm decided to do. I am a notorious procrastinator. I haven't begun to pack or done a single load of laundry since New Year's Day. Our Christmas tree came down only 2 days ago.  So today, I am catching up.

Snow days are a lot different from Hurricane days. I am used to inclement weather meaning dark and nasty and you better board up your window or else a tree or a cow might fly through it. It's kind of strange not being able to work because your town is now a pretty winter wonderland. Don't beat me, Massholes. The novelty just hasn't worn off. I'm sure after a few years, I'll be whistlin' a different tune. Although, after 26 years in Florida, I still look forward to Hurricane season.

"What the prrr?!"

Isn't it lovely? It's supposed to keep going for the rest of the day.

Which brings me to...

Coffee. As many of you know, one of the many perks of Sanne's job is that we have 1 1/2 drawers stocked-full of coffee and tea. I am usually a coffee drinker only when I live with someone who is a coffee drinker (While I was home for the holidays, I had maybe two cups. In Boston, I have it every morning). She first introduced me to the french press. It took me a while to get used to it. The texture and consistency is a little different from a traditional coffee maker, but I have come to really enjoy it. It's also one less plug-in appliance, with is a plus for purists like us. Sanne also has a pioneer-woman-style iron and wood coffee bean grinder, "which is... prettycool" (that was an SNL Miley Cyrus reference).

to french press, or not to french press?

So, I'm wondering, how do you take your coffee? French pressed? Percolated? Hand ground? Fairly traded? Do you like it in a box? (j/k)

Are you going to play in the snow today? Why don't they name their snowstorms up here? Don't they love them?

  1. I bought a french press a little over a year ago, and LOVE IT. I use it every day. My drip coffee maker is in a box in my attic. That combined with freshly ground beans is the perfect way to start my day. Also, I made pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes this morning and intend to make cheddar scallion scones this afternoon. I am a baking machine.

  2. I think Fig prefers a snow storm to a hurricane any day of the week. Coffee, you ask? I enjoy a good cup every now and then and sometimes wish I craved it like others. It's all about the dessert actually, then coffee sometimes makes it even better.
